IL-Governor's Race: attack ads

I saw my first 2006 Governor's race attack ad; Governor Blagojevich went after Judy Topinka.
He launched a series of ads with the theme: "What is She Thinking?

One of the things he zinged her with is her previous support for President Bush.
Note: about three weeks ago, I easily found this photo via google. Two days ago, it was nowhere to be found, save on my blog. I think that says something.

These ads, in my opinion, are not over the top. They simply state a fact (or state a quote) and say "what's she thinking?". Yellow Dog Democrat has a good analysis of these ads here:

Of course, not everyone thinks that Topinka's links to Bush is a liability, or at least one that could be easily overcome ewith some smooth rhetoric. Evidently this blogger is unaware at just how unpopular Bush is in Illinois (disapproval rate of 67% !!!)

So part of me hopes that Topinka's campaign listens to Bill Baar.

But, my opinion of Governor Blagojevich isn't very high either: many of my concerns are rather humorously displayed in something that Edwin Eisendrath put out called the Blago Game.

So, what to do? I don't want to vote for someone merely because they call themselves a Democrat. Yes, Governor Blagojevich has been good with abortion rights, stem cell research and I approve of his position on the minimum wage and on health care insurance.

But on a personal level, it sure looks as if he has given jobs to cronies and those that work with him in Springfield don't have a high opinion of him.

It is almost as if I can understand how a principled Republican feels about George W. Bush.

But then again, Blagojevich is NOT running for the President of the United States; he doesn't have the power to start a war and to kill thousands. Yes, I know, only Congress can declare war, but it was Bush that got us involved against Iraq.

So, I really don't know; I sure wish that Eisendrath would run as a third party candidate so I could feel good about who I voted for.
