4'th of July Race
This morning Jerry, Pat, Tracy and I drove 45 minutes to Bloomington, IL, to do the park-to-park 5 mile run (8 km).
The conditions were sauna-like by Illinois standards: 75 F with a dewpoint of 65 at 7:30 am, and it was to get a bit warmer as the day went on (it is 89 now).
This was a "point to point" run from one park to another. We were bussed from the finish line to the start at Miller Park. The course started with one loop in the park (almost 1 mile) and then went out through pleasant city streets.
I started off conservatively (8:34) and settled in with miles of 8:14, 8:22 up to mile 3. I then finally felt ready to run (I did 20 miles of racewalking the day before). The last couple of miles were not fast, but for me 7:51 and 7:52 weren't bad splits, and I was passing most.
There was good food at the finish, and a lady got proposed to.
We ended up singing "Happy Birthday" to those who had birthdays and cheering the winners (Jerry won the male 60 and up with a time of 36 minutes and Tracy took second in the female 60 and up).
It was fun and I didn't get injured.
